Rob Hain

Award winning artist Rob Hain is Dazzling Spark’s first featured artist. From his home in the Scottish Borders Rob enjoys a growing international reputation as an accomplished painter with a distinctive style. His colourful and playful representations of Scottish city scenes and landscapes illustrate both his eye for beauty and his great love for Scotland and it’s people. His paintings now grace many galleries, public venues and private homes and appear in a variety of formats, calendars, cards and prints. His recent work has been described as “Lowry meets Inception” challenging us to look at our surroundings in new ways with an inventive style and imaginative use of bold colours.

“Meet me by the Fountain”

Like most artists Rob has experimented with many different styles and materials. I first got to know Rob  in the 1980’s and was privileged to witness his wide array of talents as an emerging artist. One of his outstanding contributions was a series of original paintings I commissioned for an illustrated version of “The Seven Valleys” published by Nightingale Books ( 1992.)  Regarded as the pre-eminent mystical work of Baha’u’llah, the prophet-founder of the Baha’i Faith, it recounts the seven stages each of us must traverse in our search for enlightenment and reunion with the Beloved.

For this challenging work eight paintings were commissioned and together constitute a path of spiritual discovery. The strong colours and emotional intensity of each image create multi layered textures  weaving together the rich symbolism of different sacred traditions into a powerful narrative of transcendence and unity. *Our Dazzling Spark home page features part of the front cover illustration blending abstract and figurative elements expressive of the worlds of creation and revelation.

Following the successful book launch, tour and  media coverage, of “The Seven Valleys”, which quickly sold out, Rob furthered displayed his virtuosity as an illustrator of children’s books, now distributed throughout the world, delighting young readers in many countries.  Whether drawing smiles and admiring glances from his public murals and exhibits, or through his sensitive landscapes pausing us to reflect on the deep and intimate bonds we have with our environment and each other, Rob Hain has consistently demonstrated a spirit of dedication and humble service in his attitude to his work, thereby ennobling all of us.

Rob was also one of the featured presenters at the Dazzling Spark Arts Retreat in Edinburgh
